PRIMARY SCHOOLS

Storytelling for Primary Schools

Mike has enjoyed working with primary schools throughout the UK and internationally as part of his career as a storyteller. Tailoring his stories to themes or curriculum topics that your class may be learning about, Mike's dynamic blend of interaction and storytelling makes his storytelling sessions one of a kind. Often, Mike's performances have beenused by primary schools as part of Storytelling Weeks, Book Weeks or even just as a special treat for the end of term.

Performing to schools throughout the UK for the past 15 years, Mike is a storyteller and educator with hundreds of traditional stories in his repertoire. Ranging from traditional fairytales, stories from around the world and maybe even a story that he'll create especially for you! Mike's stories have been presented in hundreds of schools throughout the UK, as part of projects with the British Council and most recently, Macmillan Publishing.

LITERACY DEVELOPMENT
Many primary schools find a performance from Mike an excellent addition to their literacy development, helping children to understand the importance of words and encouraging them to take a greater interest in stories. We have found that some of the most popular curriculum topics that are enhanced by Mike's stories are the retelling of traditional tales, myths and legends and topics that involve creating writing units.

HISTORICAL + GEOGRAPHICAL TOPICS
Some may even find it a great alternative way of encouraging children to take a greater interest in historical and geographical topics, by having Mike tell a story from a specific time period e.g. Vikings or Tudors or by having stories from around the world.

FEE

The fee for a day within a school in Essex, Herts, East London and West Suffolk is £300 - a small travel charge needs to be considered for schools outside of this zone. This can be split into small sessions with each class, or into larger sections with full year groups.

A half day is £200 + travel charge if required.

International schools have the same daily rate but an element of travel and accomodation will be required.

TEACHER TRAINING

Mike is also able to provide teacher training for your schools, to help encourage teachers to find new ways of interpreting written and spoken word, fully engaging your pupils and making the most out of storytime. Language development is key in primary school teaching, and Mike's workshops are extensive and informative to help your school's teachers develop their own presentation skills. Please call to discuss your ideas, and Mike would be happy to develop a workshop based around your teacher's current skill sets and training.
